He meets countless predators on his TV shows, but Steve Backshall couldn’t hold back the tears when his wife Helen Glover won Olympic gold.

The 43-year-old revealed he has vowed to never embarrass her again after his very public ‘blubbering’, following her incredible success in Rio.   

He married Helen, 30, earlier this month and told Good Morning Britain: ‘She was embarrassed when she won gold at the Olympics and I was a blubbering wreck.’

He added: ‘I vowed at our wedding that I would never embarrass her again by crying in public.’

Steve went on to discuss the couple’s idyllic nuptials and intimate ceremony in picturesque Pisky Cove, West Cornwall.

He said their marriage atop a Cornish cliff was ‘perfect’ and described how the doting couple even saw a kestrel swoop down over the rocky coastline, much to the delight of the rest of the wedding party.

Presenter Piers Morgan also asked the adventurer, who is known for his work on The Discovery Channel and National Geographic, if he would now ‘tame the beast’ as a married man.

Steve married Helen in September, almost a year after the couple formally announced their engagement.  

Wedding onlookers said the pair looked ‘blissfully happy’, and that ‘the view out to sea was awesome.’

Helen recently admitted she was finally looking ahead to their wedding and future together after dedicating the last four years to defending her coxless pair title with partner Heather Stanning.

‘I was so focused on the Olympics, one of the first things Heather said to me afterwards is “you’re getting married now!” she told This Morning in August.

‘Rather than a long countdown it is going to be a three-week countdown. It is really exciting.’

Steve added that he was in floods of tears as his wife-to-be crossed the finish line in first place.

‘It was much more emotional than I expected, please don’t show it again!’ he said on the ITV daytime show today as they replayed his emotional reaction.
