Severe weather threat: Here’s the latest timing on anticipated storms in Iowa

THE STATE JUST NOT TOTALLY IN THE AREA RIGHT NOW. YEAH, IT’S EAST RIGHT NOW. YOU LOOK BEHIND ME, YOU CAN SEE WE’VE ACTUALLY GOT A COUPLE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WARNINGS EAST OF SIGOURNEY, SOUTH OF PARNELL. AGAIN, WE’VE GOT THAT AREA OF STORMS WORKING ITS WAY THROUGH, CAPABLE OF SMALL HAIL AND GUSTY WINDS. A LOT OF LIGHTNING WITH THE ONE JUST SOUTHWEST OF WASHINGTON AT THIS POINT, PUTTING DOWN SOME HEAVY RAIN AS WELL. SO ZOOM OUT. THOSE ARE THE ONLY STORMS WE’VE GOT SO FAR. AGAIN, THESE ARE NOT THE STRONGEST OF THE STORMS WE’LL SEE TODAY. THAT’S LATER ON THIS AFTERNOON. BUT WE WILL CARRY A CHANCE FOR AN ISOLATED SHOWER STORM EARLY ON HERE. SO YOU’VE GOT CHILLS CHANCES AS WE END TO THE AFTERNOON COULD SEE DAMAGING WINDS WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR TORNADOES AS WELL AS LARGE HAIL. REALLY WARM AIR SURGING ITS WAY IN FROM THE SOUTH. IT’S GOING TO KIND OF SET THE STAGE FOR US AS SOME OF US CLIMB INTO THE UPPER SEVENTIES TO LOW EIGHTIES, HIGHEST THREAT AND HIGHEST LIKELIHOOD FOR SEEING ANYTHING. TODAY WILL BE THAT EASTERN PORTION OF THE STATE. AGAIN, THAT’S WHERE WE COULD SEE THE STRONGEST TORNADOES WORK THEIR WAY THROUGH METRO INCLUDED IN A RISK AREA THAT’S ON THREE OUT OF THREE ON A SCALE THAT GOES UP TO FIVE. OF COURSE, THAT MODERATE RISK OFF TO THE RIGHT IS FOUR ON A SCALE THAT GOES TO FIVE. SO PRETTY SIGNIFCANT RISK ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE STATE TODAY. BECAUSE OF THAT. WE ARE WEATHER ALERT TODAY. WE ONLY ISSUE THAT WHEN WE WHEN WE ARE EXPECTING LIFE THREATENING WEATHER AFTER THAT DOWN TO 48 BY WEDNESDAY,

It’s warming up Tuesday across central Iowa and we are once again monitoring the threat of severe weather.Later this afternoon, these storms could bring damaging winds, hail and tornadoes to parts of the state.Eastern and southeastern Iowa is shaded red. That means those areas have a moderate (4 out of 5) risk. Much of central Iowa has either a slight or enhanced risk. Further north and west there is a marginal risk.Storms may fire as early as 3 p.m. but if they do struggle to kick off could fire as late as 6 p.m. Storm motions will again be fairly quick around 45 mph.Another round of storms could roll in late this evening and may continue into the overnight for our eastern counties. These storms would bring in a damaging wind and embedded spin-up tornado threat.
