‘Rust’ armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed called jurors ‘idiots and ‘a-holes’ in jailhouse calls

Armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will be sentenced Monday for the fatal shooting of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins — with prosecutors revealing that she blasted jurors as “idiots” and “a–holes” for convicting her of manslaughter.

The 26-year-old’s derogatory comments in recorded jailhouse phone calls were revealed as prosecutors push for the maximum penalty of 18 months in prison for the 2021 manslaughter of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Alec Baldwin’s Western.

They oppose the defense team’s request for a conditional discharge due to her “complete and total failure to accept responsibility for her actions as demonstrated by … some of her calls since her incarceration.”

“She continued to complain in her jail calls about the negative effects this incident has had on her life and her modeling career while never expressing genuine remorse at any time,” prosecutors wrote in a pre-sentencing filing.

“She referred to the jurors as “r—-ds,’ ‘idiots’ and ‘a–holes,’” they wrote as proof of how she “continues to deny responsibility and blame others.”

“She calls the jury r—-ded. ‘When they say jury of your peers they mean fuckin r—-ds,’” the filing states, saying that the armorer also called the judge “terrible.”

Gutierrez-Reed was in charge of the guns during filming when Baldwin shot Hutchins with a prop gun that had been unknowingly loaded with live ammunition as Gutierrez-Reed routinely flouted gun safety protocols.

Gutierrez-Reed was convicted after two hours of deliberation, with the jury finding she was ultimately responsible for the live rounds on set.

Gutierrez-Reed also complained that she wants Baldwin, who had been handling the gun at the time of the shooting, to go to jail, too, and says she will not testify at his upcoming criminal trial.

“Hannah wants them to put Alec Baldwin in jail also,” prosecutors wrote, noting Gutierrez-Reed said that if she was subpoenaed for Baldwin’s trial she would not show up because “she shouldn’t be subpoenaed if Baldwin didn’t show up for her,” the filing said.

Gutierrez-Reed’s attorneys have asked for a conditional discharge, citing her “complete lack of prior criminal history” and “relative youth.”

However, in her jail calls she said she was having “fun” in jail — even comparing it to “summer camp,” the filing says.

She also complained about the length of time the jurors deliberated, seemingly thinking they came to their conviction too quickly, prosecutors said.

In the calls, she also mentioned other inmates saying things like, “I can’t believe they threw your pretty little white a– in here for nothing,” and that she likes tap water, hard beds and thinks “cat food isn’t too bad,” according to the filing.

“Stunningly, Ms. Gutierrez requested during jail calls that her legal team request that Ms. Hutchins’ husband and son be contacted and asked to speak on her behalf at her sentencing,” prosecutors wrote.

Gutierrez-Reed also talked about the witnesses, who she claims lied and said “she didn’t need to be shaking the dummies all the time.”

“Hannah thinks the producers should be in jail while complaining about first assistant director Dave Halls and how he ‘f–ked Hannah to save his own a–,’” the filing said.

During his trial testimony, Halls, who was the film’s safety coordinator, emotionally admitted he should have checked the gun more thoroughly. He pleaded no contest to negligent use of a deadly weapon and was sentenced to six months of unsupervised probation.

Baldwin, the movie’s star and co-producer, was indicted in January on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. 

He is scheduled to go to trial in July.
