OPHIR, Ore. – Updated at 9:46 a.m.: Overnight, containment increased for the O’Brien Creek Fire. Fire officials don’t expect any growth today.
The portion of Highway 101 that was closed last night has been reopened.
The O’Brien Creek Fire is burning near the coast in Curry County. Level three evacuations are in place for the area of Coy Creek.
O’Brien Creek Fire (north of Ophir at milepost 315)
Level 3 Evacuations (GO NOW!): Coy Creek Road, Sky Ranch Road and parts of Euchre Creek
Acreage: 20-25 acres
Containment: 25%
Structures Threatened: 30+ structures threatened
Firefighting Efforts: The Coos Forest Protective Association (FPA) confirmed with NewsWatch 12 that there are three fire agencies fighting the fire: Coos FPA, Curry County Fire and the U.S. Forest Service. There are 100 personnel engaged in the fire. No structures were lost. Right now, crews are working to increase containment and are mopping up the fire. Fire officials don’t expect any growth.
Evacuation Routes/Road Closures: Highway 101 from milepost 311 to 320 have been reopened
Evacuation Centers: The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center for those impacted by the O’Brien Creek Fire at The First Baptist Church of Gold Beach, 29755 Turner St, Gold Beach, OR 97444
