Murdaugh also said he tried to turn Paul over. The prosecution noted that Paul Murdaugh’s hands were underneath his body, with a pool of blood around him, yet Alex Murdaugh had visible no sign of blood on his clothes or person when law enforcement arrived. In his cross examination of Rutland, defense attorney Jim Griffin asked Rutland, “Did he look like someone who had blown his son’s head off?”Rutland responded, “I can’t say for sure.”Griffin also said, “So we don’t know how tried to turn over, how the phone popped out, and where on Paul’s body he attempted to check the pulse.
