Police have successfully located a 17-year-old suspect wanted in the shooting death of another teen. Sunday afternoon, Lawrence police and deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office say they have successfully found Derrick Del Reed and his dark 2015 Chrysler 300 with the license plate number 369REG. Officers and deputies arrived in the 1100 Block of East 13th Street just after 5 p.m. on March 18, 2023, to find a male teen who had been shot. The unidentified teen was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Police say witnesses told officers that the teen arrived at the apartment complex address wounded. The shooting allegedly occurred in the 1300 block of Maple Lane.Investigators worked overnight to identify possible suspects and began searching for Reed. Police described the teen as a white 17-year-old male, weighing about 175 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes and approximately 5 foot 10 inches tall. On Sunday, Lawrence police released photos of Reed and his vehicle to aid in the search.Investigators have interviewed several witnesses and have evidence that suggests the two teens knew each other. Reed turned himself in and LKPD officers transported him to the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center.
