It is a known fact that swimming GOAT Michael Phelps suffers from the medical condition of ADHD. It is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that results in controlling impulsive behaviors. Overcoming obstacles, Phelps never allowed his medical condition to overpower him or stand in his way. He braved the barriers to reach the height that he now enjoys.

However, it is just not ADHD that Phelps has to deal with. He is also rumored to suffer from Marfan syndrome (MFS). A hereditary condition that damages the connective tissue. Though he has tested negative for it, he is not the only one to be on the list.

Studies have shown that people with the syndrome are typically tall and skinny, with long fingers, toes, and arms. They also have scoliosis and excessive joint flexibility. The medical condition most likely affects the aorta (the artery that carries blood from the heart). Among the many diagnosed, the most famous is the ex-US President, Abraham Lincoln.

Despite allegations that some of his descendants have the same illness, there is no hard proof to back up these assertions. Though his disease could never be diagnosed for apparent reasons, he was undeniably one of the most ill-repute Marfan syndrome sufferers.

Michael Phelps, who is 6’4″ tall, has a massive 6’7″ wingspan. This made him the focus of a medical marvel, and many believed it gave Phelps an edge over his competitors. But Michael’s unusual stature also sparked speculation that he had Marfan Syndrome.

Michael Phelps talked about his health and medical condition

In his autobiography, Swimming GOAT opened up about his health. He revealed how his physical features made people think that he had MFS. He quoted, “My heart rate was accelerating, and Bob suggested I see the doctor. Because I was very flexible and had long hands and feet, I had some early symptoms of Marfan syndrome.

He soon got himself checked. Thankfully, the reports came negative. Following this, Michael revealed that he has “been tested once a year ever.” Discussing further, he also added that it is not something to be afraid of or feel embarrassed about. It is normal and can happen to anyone.
