President Joe Biden’s campaign is planning a fundraiser that will include Biden, former President Bill Clinton and former President Barack Obama in the hopes of lighting a fire under Democratic voters, NBC News reports.
The event is likely to take place in March or April, but conversations are still in progress to coordinate all three presidents’ schedules.
News of planning for the fundraiser as the view shifts to the general election in the wake of Donald Trump’s victories in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary. Former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, now Trump’s sole Republican primary opponent, has vowed to stay in the race through her home state of South Carolina.
The president is seeking to energize a Democratic base that is unenthusiastic about the prospect of a rematch between Trump and Biden. Polls indicate that voters believe both candidates, who are four years apart in age, are too old to seek re-election.
