A flight from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport headed to Tampa was diverted to Atlanta Friday night after an incident onboard. A man is now being held by federal authorities in Atlanta after causing a Tampa bound Frontier Airlines Flight to divert to Atlanta about an hour after departing from CVG.A Frontier Airlines representative confirmed to WLWT, flight 1761 was diverted to Atlanta after witnesses reported seeing one passenger with a box cutter. Police have not released the suspect’s identity at this time.No injuries to passengers or crew were reported. Passengers say the man made threats to stab someone on board.”When he went to go to the bathroom the passenger in the window seat looked at me said ‘Hey he has a knife and he told me he was threatening to stab people we need to say something to somebody.’ So I went up and talked to the flight attendants in the front of the airplane and let them know like this guy has a box knife and he’s been telling us he wants to stab people,” Lillian Hoffman said. The aircraft landed safely in Atlanta and the passenger in question was taken into custody by police officers, a Frontier spokesperson said. The plane departed from CVG around 7:23 p.m. and landed in Atlanta just before 9 p.m., officials said. All passengers were taken off the aircraft and are being put in a hotel overnight. WLWT received images from the incident from a witness on the plane. Frontier Officials released a statement about the incident.”No injuries to passengers or crew have been reported. The aircraft landed safely in Atlanta and the passenger in question was taken into custody by Atlanta Law Enforcement,” the statement read. Authorities say a second box cutter was discovered in the man’s carry-on.
