‘SNL’ Weekend Update Drags Giuliani After ‘Hilarious’ $148 Million Defamation Verdict

Co-anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che also made their highly anticipated joke swap

A day after Rudy Giuliani was hit with a massive, $148 million judgement in a defamation case brought by two Atlanta poll workers, SNL‘s Weekend Update rubbed in the consequences of his many false claims.

“You might as well just make it a billion [dollars], because there’s no way he can pay it. At this point, they only call Giuliani the mayor of 9/11 because that’s all that’s left in his bank account,” Jost joked.

Giuliani’s lawyer had told the eight-person Washington, D.C. jury this week that if they were to award the plaintiffs $43 million–the amount they had claimed–then that would amount to “the civil equivalent of the death penalty” for his client.

Jost went on, as a picture showed on screen of the disgraced Trump ally with black shoe dye running down his face during one of his post-election conspiracy mongering press conferences.

“Giuliani–amazingly, seen here in better times–said during the trial that it was an accident that he attacked the plaintiffs repeatedly on social media, with the judge noting there’s a lot of accidents going on,” Jost commented. “Said Giuliani, ‘Oh, you could smell that?’”

Giuliani, of course, is also facing prosecution in a Georgia RICO case related to Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, so his legal troubles are far from over.

Later in the segment, Jost and co-anchor Michael Che made their highly anticipated exchange of jokes.
