‘This is a MESS’: Gary Neville fumes at Man United’s ‘APPALLING’ defending as Darwin Nunez puts Liverpool two goals ahead straight after half-time… before his old club is torn apart in a shambolic 7-0 defeat at Anfield
Gary Neville has labelled Manchester United‘s defending as a ‘mess’ after Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez punished Erik ten Hag’s defenders by scoring immediately after the second-half got underway.
Nunez finished off a pouncing Liverpool attack by steering Harvey Elliott’s cross past United shot-stopper David de Gea.
United had failed to learn their mistakes from a poor first-half that saw Cody Gakpo open the scoring as Liverpool’s Uruguayan striker punished the visitors.
Neville, commentating on Sky Sports, fumed as his former side found themselves undone once again.
‘Timing of Liverpool’s goals, absolutely fantastic for them, just been talking about United improve in the second half, this is a mess, all of them should do better,’ said Neville.

‘They cant clear their lines. From a defensive point of view, those two goals united have conceded, appalling defensively.
Man United couldn’t have started the second-half worse as Liverpool got their tails up, began to grow in confidence and showed quality that has been missing for so much of this season.
Neville’s comments were echoed by former Liverpool defender and fellow gantry colleague Jamie Carragher who insisted Nunez’s goal was a huge moment in the feisty Premier League clash.

‘Huge moment. A lot of those people re waiting or that second gal, to get it so early,’ said Carragher.
Gakpo bagged his second goal just minutes later before Mohamed Salah got in on the action as well.
Nunez then scored his second goal of the game with another well-taken header in the 75th minute as Roberto Firmino came off the bench to secure a 7-0 Anfield victory for the hosts.
Manchester United capitulated in their heaviest defeat of the season as Liverpool continued their rise up the Premier League table and closed the gap to the Champions League places.
