SAN DIEGO — Monday’s historic rainfall caused devastating flooding throughout San Diego, and Drone 5 captured a bird’s-eye view of the devastation to one neighborhood in particular.
The urban community of Southcrest, located in the southeastern section of San Diego, was one of the hardest hit areas. Last week’s storm turned the area into what appears to be a village of muddy brown.
Drone 5 video shows mud-filled streets with some areas holding standing water by the feet. A dozer can be seen pushing the drenched soil in an attempt to clear the pathways once traveled by car.
Trash and rainwater runoff can be seen lining the neighborhood as some residents do their best to clear driveways and sidewalks with brooms. Piles of trash can be seen outside homes that were likely flood damaged by the downpour.
As seen in the footage, a vehicle appears to have floated right through the fence of someone’s backyard. From empty laundry baskets and floating debris of all kinds, Southcrest looks like a destruction zone.
Roughly 200 residents in the area lost everything and were displaced from their homes. Some people even reported flood waters rose so quickly, they became trapped inside their residences.
City crews were seen in the Southcrest neighborhood on Wednesday, clearing sidewalks and other outside areas. Looking ahead, a community in ruins has a ways to go before normalcy and comfort returns.
