NEW DELHI: BJP on Thursday made a point-wise rebuttal of Congress’ claim that its accounts have been frozen by the income tax department out of political vendetta saying the opposition party fearing defeat is ranting against Indian democracy and institutions as the governing party also justified the move to recover taxes due from Congress.
“Congress is going to be totally rejected by the people and fearing a historic defeat, their top leadership addressed a press conference and ranted against Indian democracy and institutions. They are conveniently blaming their irrelevance on ‘financial troubles’. In reality, their bankruptcy is moral and intellectual, not financial,” said BJP president J P Nadda.
Senior BJP leader and an MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said the press conference of Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi held the press conference in the utter desperation of defeat and has created an alibi today. “Congress failed to file tax returns for years, I-T deparment’s recovery move (is) justified,” Prasad said.
BJP functionary further said, “How much will Rahul lie?…Please apologise for castigating institutions.”
Prasad claimed that Congress did not file income tax returns in time, leading to the freezing of its account with a purpose to extract political mileage by playing the victim card.
Nadda said instead of correcting their own errors, Congress is blaming authorities for their troubles. “Be it the ITAT or the Delhi HC, they have asked Congress to comply with the rules, pay the taxes due but the party never did so,” he said.
BJP president said that for a party which has looted from every sector, in every state and at every moment of history, to talk of financial helplessness is comical. “Congress can use the money accumulated from all their scams starting from jeep to chopper scam via Bofors for their electioneering,” Nadda said.
He said Congress’ “part time leaders” say India being a democracy is a lie. “May I humbly remind them that India was not a democracy only for a few months between 1975 and 1977 and that time PM was none other than Mrs. Indira Gandhi,” Nadda said recalling the two-year phase when Emergency was imposed in the country.
