A black Mississippi boy who was arrested for urinating in public over the summer has been put on probation and ordered to write a book report.

Quantavious Eason, 10, has to check in with a probation officer once a month for three months and must write a two-page report on late NBA legend Kobe Bryant, a judge ordered on Tuesday.

The third-grader’s attorney Carlos Moore said he is shocked prosecutors even pursued the case – and claimed the child’s race played a role in the youth court’s judge decision.

‘He would not have been arrested, prosecuted or sentenced if he was any other color, race, besides Black,’ Moore told NBC.

However, the boy’s family will not appeal the decision as his criminal record will remain clean.

‘He will not have a criminal record, this is probation. And he is a fan of Kobe Bryant, so he doesn’t mind writing the two-page report,’ Moore added.

‘But, still, the principle of it – he should not have to do anything. He should be enjoying his Christmas holiday like the other kids.’

Quantavious was arrested in August by the Senatobia Police Department after he relieved himself behind his mom’s car as he waited for her to get out of a meeting in a lawyer’s office.

His mom LaTonya Eason said the officer went inside the business to look for her to inform her of the incident but told her he would let the boy off with a warning.

But she claims the unidentified cop had a change of heart when other cops came on the scene and a furious lieutenant demanded he be taken to the station and issued with a statute for being left unattended.

A Senatobia police officer was fired and other disciplined after the story emerged, sparking backlash against the department.

Moore said the boy did what anyone would do, as there were signs that said no public restrooms were available.

LaTonya told NBC she doesn’t know whether her son’s race played a factor in the case’s outcome, but said the judge’s decision was not right or fair. She claims the boy now is scared of the police.

The family plans on filing a lawsuit against the city of Senatobia, about 40 miles south of Memphis, and the arresting officer claiming the boy’s arrest violated his civil rights.

He said the child was not handcuffed and that under the Youth Court Act a referral can be issued against a 10-year-old if they commit acts that would be illegal for an adult.

‘The officer did not observe a parent on the scene during the initial contact,’ he added.

‘The mother was located at a nearby business shortly thereafter and she was advised that her child was going to receive a Youth Court Referral for this matter.

‘The officers then transported the 10-year-old to the police station to complete the paperwork where the child was released to the mother.
