Nancy Landry wins race for Louisiana Secretary of State
Nancy Landry has been elected Secretary of State, beating out Gwen Colling-Greenup, the Associated Press projects. Landry currently serves as the First Assistant Secretary of State for current Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin, who decided not to seek re-election. Landry was also in the Louisiana House of Representatives for Louisiana House District 31 and served on the committee on Civil Law, Natural Resources, House, Governmental Affairs and served as chairman of Education during her final term. During her term as Secretary of State, Landry wants to update the current voting machines, to ensure that the systems combine speed and accuracy with the assurance of paper as a backup. Landry will take on the task of replacing Louisiana’s outdated voting machines, which don’t produce the paper ballots critical to ensuring accurate election results. The lengthy and ongoing replacement process was thrust into the national spotlight after allegations of bid-rigging. Voting machine companies claimed favoritism, and conspiracy theorists, who support Donald Trump’s lies that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, inserted themselves into the conversation.Conspiracy theorists urged Ardoin to ditch voting machines altogether and instead rely on hand-counted paper ballots.CLICK HERE TO VIEW ALL ELECTION RESULTS.
