UW student attacked in downtown Madison

A University of Wisconsin-Madison student was found beaten early Sunday morning near Bedford and Wilson Street. Police were called to West Wilson and Bedford streets at about 3:20 a.m.The woman was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she remains in critical condition. No other information about the victim has been released.This appears to be a stranger attack, police said. “I have authorized a full complement of police resources to bring this person or persons to justice,” Madison police Chief Shon Barnes said during a media briefing.Patrols in this area have been increased for the time being. Police also encourage people to walk in groups, especially at night, when possible and to let someone know when you leave and arrive at your destination. Anyone living within four blocks of this area with a home security camera is asked to send the video to detectives. Video and information can be shared by calling the department’s non-emergency line at 608-255-2345 or Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
