State Police: Motorcycle gang shooting kills 3, injures 5 in Red River

THERE WAS PEOPLE RUNNING BY WHERE WE WERE STANDING SCREAMING THERE, SHOOTING DOWN THERE. A DEADLY SHOOTING AT A MOTORCYCLE RALLY IN RED RIVER FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. MULTIPLE PEOPLE ARE DEAD AND SEVERAL MORE INJURED. POLICE GETTING TO THE SCENE WITHIN SECONDS. I THINK THE FIRST STATE POLICE WAS ON SCENE WITHIN ABOUT 30S. THEY QUICKLY CONTAINED THE AREA. THEY SAID EVERYTHING DOWN RIGHT THEN. I RIGHT. I MEAN, I BET IT DIDN’T TAKE THEM FIVE MINUTES TO GET EVERYTHING SHUT DOWN AND BLOCKED OFF. POLICE SEALING OFF THE SCENE AS THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES. OUR TEAM COVERAGE CONTINUES RIGHT NOW. A BIKER RALLY TURNING DEADLY. RED RIVER. AUTHORITIES SAY THE SHOOTING HAPPENED SATURDAY EVENING, AT LEAST FIVE OTHER PEOPLE WOUNDED AND TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE POLICE CHIEF SAYS THE SHOOTOUT STARTED WITH A CONFRONTATION BETWEEN MOTORCYCLE GANGS. GOOD EVENING. I’M SHELLY RIBANDO. AND I WE’RE GOING TO DETAIL IT ALL FOR YOU. WE’RE GOING TO START WITH THAT BIG ONE, THOUGH, OF COURSE, THE SUSPECTS FROM THE PEOPLE KILLED TWO PEOPLE IN THE HOSPITAL AND THOSE IN CUSTODY. INVESTIGATORS HERE SAY THEY HAVE EVERYONE WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR YESTERDAY’S SHOOTING. SO THIS IS WHO WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HERE. ONE OF THOSE IN CUSTODY IS 30 YEAR OLD JACOB CASTILLO. HE’S CHARGED WITH MURDER INVESTIGATORS SAY HE’S FROM RIO RANCHO AND IS A WATER DOG GANG MEMBER. TWO OTHER ARRESTS, POLICE SAY ONE OF THEM IS A LOCAL BANDIDO LEADER. AND TEXAS 39 YEAR OLD MATTHEW JACKSON FOR UNLAWFULLY HAVING A GUN INSIDE OF A BAR. AND 41 YEAR OLD CHRISTOPHER GARCIA FOR HAVING COCAINE. THE NEW MEXICO STATE POLICE DEPARTMENT, THEY ARE THE LEADING AGENCY ON THIS INVESTIGATION, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE. A LOT OF DIFFERENT AGENCIES COMING TOGETHER TO RESPOND TO THIS. NOW, THE CHIEF OF THE NEW MEXICO STATE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAD A PRESS CONFERENCE TODAY. THAT IS WHERE WE GOT ALL OF THAT NEW INFORMATION THAT WE ARE TELLING YOU ABOUT IN THESE NEXT FEW MINUTES. WE HAVE LEARNED THIS DEADLY SHOOTING HERE ON MAIN STREET INVOLVED TWO BIKER GANGS, THE BANDIDOS AND THE WATER DOGS. YOU CAN SEE MAIN STREET A LITTLE BIT BUSY AS WE SPEAK. THE STATE POLICE CHIEF WITH VERY BLUNT WORDS FOR ALL OF THOSE INVOLVED, CALLING THEM LAWLESS. AND NONE OF THIS WILL BE TOLERATED. WE’RE BEING TOLD IT WAS OVER. SOMEBODY TAKING A PICTURE WITH A DIFFERENT GANG. IT’S SOMETHING AS STUPID AS THAT. THAT’S WHAT NEW MEXICO STATE POLICE CHIEF TIM JOHNSON SAYS STARTED THE SHOOTING. A PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN IN ALBUQUERQUE THAT SPILLED OVER TO HERE WHERE THEY RAN INTO EACH OTHER. AGAIN, A CONFRONTATION STARTED AND STARTED WITH WORDS INITIALLY, THEN TURNED INTO A FIGHT WHICH THEN TURNED TO SHOTS FIRE THAT SHOOTING HAPPENING AROUND 5 P.M. SATURDAY AS FAMILIES AND MOTORCYCLE CLUBS WERE OUT ENJOYING THE ANNUAL RED RIVER MOTORCYCLE RALLY THIS EVENT BRINGING IN THOUSANDS EVERY SINGLE YEAR, ROUGHLY 28,000 EXPECTED THIS TIME AROUND. THIS IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN THIS WEEKEND BECAUSE WE’RE NOT GOING TO ALLOW IT. THE SHOOTING KILLING THREE PEOPLE AND INJURING FIVE OTHERS, ALL EIGHT INDIVIDUALS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS OUTLAW MOTORCYCLE GANG MEMBERS, TWO TO BE EXACT. THE BANDIDOS. AND THE SECOND ONE IS A GROUP CALLED THE WATER DOGS. WELL, THAT SHOOTING CAUSING THREE HOSPITALS WERE VICTIMS WERE TAKEN TO BE ON LOCKDOWN AS A PRECAUTION. IF THEY’RE IF THEY’RE A GANG BANGER, IT’S NOT GOING TO BE A FUN NEXT TWO DAYS. I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THE TOWN ALSO PULLING VENDOR LICENSES, MEANING THESE SHOPS WILL CLOSE. 3 people are dead and 5 others were injured in a shooting between two motorcycle gangs during the Red River Motorcycle Rally. New Mexico State Police say all those who died and were injured were members of a motorcycle gang. State police say the shooting happened after an altercation between the Bandidos and the Water Dogs motorcycle gangs.
