Robert Downey Jr shocked fans with his new appearance as he attended at the Governors Awards at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The actor, 57, debuted his new bald look as he took to the red carpet alongside his  wife Susan at the star-studded event.

Robert has been sporting a buzz cut in recent months, but he has now taken it one step further by showcasing the clean-shaven style.

The Iron Man star, who is normally recognisable for his dark short spiky hair, now looks remarkably different. 

During the evening, Robert looked dapper in a black suit and tie with a crisp white shirt, teamed with a pair of matching suit trousers.

Meanwhile, American film producer Susan, 49, looked elegant in a floor-length black dress with spaghetti straps and a sweetheart neckline.

She wore her brunette locks in pretty loose waves and opted for a glamorous soft pallet of make-up.

There is a reason behind Robert’s new look – his role in HBO’s The Sympathizer.

Robert posted a video to Instagram of himself receiving a haircut from his children at home at the end of October ahead of the new film.

Talking to his children Exton, 10, and Avri, eight, said: ‘I don’t want to have to wear a bald cap, so will you guys shave my head?’

The youngsters were then given a pair of electric clippers to shave off their dad’s locks in the video, which was captioned: ‘The things we do for our work… and our kids.’ 

Robert debuted his shorter hair at a special screening of Sr, which is a Netflix documentary about his late father, earlier this month.

He was wearing a graphic print T-shirt and a navy blazer.
